How did you feel about the location of Texas Adventure Elopements that Brit + Rachel with Brit Nicole Photography picked out?
We loved the location! We are true Texans, born and bred, and there’s nothing we love more than the Texas Hillcountry. But you add in the uniqueness of a treehouse, and that is just icing on the cake. There was something so magical about the suspension bridge leading to the single-room treehouse, covered in string lights. The solitude of it all – the fact that it was just the 2 of us (and our favorite photographer) made it all so perfect.
Our favorite memory was reading the letters we had written to each other. Instead of writing vows, we decided to write letters that reflected over the last 20 years of our marriage and life together and spoke to our hopes and dreams for the future. With the busyness of family, careers, and just life in general – it was amazing to get to look into each other’s eyes, uninterrupted, and speak our hearts to one another in those quiet moments. Just us – focused on us. It may just be my favorite moment over the entire last year!
What was it like with having jeremy help you get ready 20 years later vs him seeing you the first time down the aisle on your wedding day? Getting ready together was weirdly magical! I mean, we get ready together every day of our lives. But this is by far the most dressed up and fancy we’ve gotten since our wedding day 20 years ago. To be able to do that together, to have him help me into that beautiful dress was a precious moment that I’ll cherish forever.
How did you two meet? I was 15 years old when I met Jeremy. He was my big brother’s best friend, haha! A big group of us would go have coffee at Roaster’s Coffee & Tea Co in Amarillo Texas early on Wednesday mornings before heading to school…him to his big public high school and me to my tiny little private school. He made me laugh more than any boy had ever before, and there was something undeniably sweet about him. He just thought I was a hot blonde cheerleader, lol!
What is the greatest advice you can give anyone who is hoping to meet 20 years with their spouse? Ooohhhh, there is so much I could say after 20 years! 1) Date your spouse. There are so many distractions in this life, and it’s so easy to put this on the backburner when life gets busy. But I can not tell you how important regular dates with each other are! Make it a priority! 2) Give each other grace to be human and make mistakes, have bad days, etc. 3) Listen when the other person talks. Put your phone down, turn Netflix off, look them in the eyes and really tune in to what they’re saying. 4) Over-communicate about everything. The kids, the grocery list, your hurts, your needs, your past, your goals, your work calendar lol. Seriously, communication is key!
I wanted this moment with my husband to be special and unscripted, and just one we would never forget. I knew without a doubt that we would get that with Brit + Rachel – that they would not only document this event for us but help it to be something beyond anything we could have ever planned for ourselves. And we were not disappointed!
