What happens if there’s inclement Texas weather on our elopement day?

You contacted us and chose the date for your adventure wedding 9 months ago. As it gets closer to the day, you notice that rain has rolled into the forecast. What do you do?

You chase those rainbows baby! We shoot rain or shine, hot or cold. Sometimes, certain trails may be closed off in the rain to protect the trail from damage, but we always have a backup plan (or two or three..maybe four).

YES, your dress will get dirty and your pant legs will get wet, but you’re okay with that because it’s all part of the adventure you asked for. There is nothing more romantic and fun than kissing and dancing in the rain. The scent of a rainstorm while you’re wrapped in each other’s arms, soaking wet and laughing- I mean, seriously, it’s straight out of a movie. Except that it’s not a movie- IT’S YOUR FREAKIN WEDDING DAY.

We always have extra umbrellas, rain ponchos, hand warmers, and blankets on hand. Texas weather can be unpredictable and change in a heartbeat. We always recommend preparing for all types of weather just in case. Bring sweaters and rain jackets, even if it looks like it’s going to be hot. The day could start out blazing 97 degrees and then halfway through turn cold and rainy. Especially out in the desert, the days are hottt, but once the sun goes down, it can get chilly fast.

At the end of the day, you can let the weather make the day a magical experience you never forget or you can allow it to ruin your mood on a day that’s supposed to be one of the happiest in your life. We say take life by the horns and enjoy the ride! You didn’t choose an adventure elopement because you wanted a picture-perfect Pinterest wedding. Hell Nah. You chose an adventure elopement because you’re a free spirit with a soul drawn to explore all the experiences that life has to offer you.

“We didn’t know it was going to rain until about the week before their elopement. Chances were low, but I brought along some extra umbrellas, towels, and a blanket just to be safe. The day of, it was rather cold and drizzly. Everyone had prepared for the rain and there were plenty of umbrellas and rain ponchos to go around. I bundled up in my Gore-Tex jacket and we made our way to Santa Elena Canyon, our first stop for the day. We were all a little unsure if it would rain once we got there but were hopeful we’d get some rain-free moments. Our time spent at the canyon was surprisingly dry with an overcast sky, giving us some gorgeous moody vibes. They enjoyed the chance to spend the hour just the two of them, taking in the scenery and playing in the Rio Grande.

We had initially planned for a sunset ceremony at the window, but Big Bend had other ideas. Instead of a neon orange sky, we got a tropical rainstorm in the mountains. Another hiker even marveled at what a truly once-in-a-lifetime sight it was; he’d never seen the basin look like that before in his life. We waited it out for just a little bit to see if the rain would let up, but after 5 or 10 minutes, we decided to go ahead and begin the ceremony. Everyone donned up ponchos, and we made the short walk over to the window view trail. Though it was cold and rainy, everyone was overwhelmed by the sheer emotion of watching the two of them commit their lives to each other. It was an experience they would never have again surrounded by scenery that couldn’t have been planned even if they’d tried. That’s the beauty of an adventure elopement; embracing the beauty of the unknown. The little intricacies that make your day unique and stand out in your memory for the rest of your life.”
